Goings On

No I'm not really going to rehash all of that stuff.  Even I feel like its fucking boring. Here is some general stuff happening.

I'm in Tour de France season (Over on July 25th, woo hoo) and that means that the quiet moments that we normally would have together turn into me upstairs finding something to do and he's watching the latest stage in the race.  Its fine; its not a danger sign of impending marriage doom.  I've been doing this since my first race season since 1996.

So, yes, right now he's downstairs and I'm being kept company by Dexter Morgan.  I've also caught up on my google reader and some blogs that I like to look in on from time to time.

I posted a comment on this post on 10eleven; the 3rd bullet about contemplating relationships. The part about the bastardish behavior about not recognizing a 20 year relationship after one of the couple dies and their friends and family act as if their relationship wasn't important since they weren't married.  My sisters best friend had her fiance die when were all about 20 years old.  Her best friend was invited by another to a bowling night.  After she explained what had happened and that the funeral was the same day as the bowling night, this person said, "well come after, its going to be fun!"  I wish that I was surprised that people can be such assholes.

I painted my nails this color. It's Blue My Mind by OPI.
I'm still trying to co-ordinate my trip to Colorado.  I have a conservative couple making plans and a gay single man making plans.  We'll have fun but are trying to balance what to do with whom and when.  And my sister is joining us. My sister is very picky. Not that I'm inferring that I'm not picky but the both of us traveling together in the past has led to our only fights.

We are also trying to coordinate the trip to NYC next year because there is going to be about 8 people going on that trip.  Finding a week that we can all agree on has been a pain, then ignored by all, then someone messages everyone and they want a decision NOW...in July... months away from the anticipated trip in March or April. Ugh family.

My hair is getting longer and longer and longer and I have forgotten how much of a pain it is when growing it out.  From time to time I've wished that I would have learned a particular skill from each of my parents and right now i know that I should have paid attention to my mother when she french braided my hair.  Its so thick and too hot in the summer but I love how it looks.  My look while home is a pebbles ponytail.  You know, Pebbles Flintstone.  That caveman baby that had her ginger pony tail on top of her head.  I tried 2 ponytails today.  No I will not be doing the Chrissy Snow side ponytail. My attempts at braids have shamed my mother's memory, I'm sure.

Oh my god, Pebbles was a GINGER.  She's a daywalker; she has no soul. poor caveman baby.

Normal

Ah Sunday, still my favorite day of the week.

I wish that I had something exciting to report but its the same old, same old around here.

I'm still working for that darn bachelor's. At the moment I'm in an internet class, Social Anthropology. I was wondering when I was going to read "Yanomamö, during my college career and its here already. I have about 5 classes until I'm done. The trouble is finding the classes I need to fit my work schedule.

Works good, nothing to report there. No other activity from the girl who who wanted to be my best friend. I tend to stay out of her way. I do hear that she's backed off from others, as well.

I've been a little more social than normal, and I don't really like it. I've met some girls after work for movies, cocktails and dinner more that a few times in the last couple of weeks. I really like these people but I sooo love my solitude, I feel like I'm impatient, waiting for the time to go home. Yeah, I know that it sets me up for my eventual end; dying alone 2 weeks before the neighbors report me missing and they find my 30 cats have eaten my face. I already came to terms with that end in my angsty teenage years. I'm happy not being bothered. Dave is just fine about this by the way. He has many outside interest that keeps him occupied when I want to stay home. As long as he comes home with coffee for me when he returns, he gets to do what he wants, mostly.

Saturday, was spent with the BFF and Ginger (the red-headed BFF's husband) at cocktails and then a movie. Our bartender, Mixtress Melissa, is a new transplant from Idaho. She shared the same views on non-God and non-Children so we invited her and her husband Andrew to see The Hangover, and they happily accepted. Before, the arrival of Andrew, we girls started talking about boys from our past. Well, mostly because Melissa is young, newly married and has very small issues about marriage and love that we've all had. Not much to say, really, I had a handful of boyfriends, only one really good one, and then I got married to the one that I was supposed to marry. Supposed to, meaning, timing, trust, love, lives in Phoenix and won't move, my mother liked him a lot. It was a good start and only got better. The point is me rehashing what worked and what didn't isn't going to help someone else. Just like I did, you need to live it and take away what you need to, to leave or stay and make it work.

And The Hangover I loved. If you see it, you will know exactly how disturbed an individual I am. After it ended, I said that we need to watch this every Christmas.

that show on sunday

I got creeped out at the end when Bill recited the prayer over the sacrament, BECAUSE I WAS SAYING IT ALONG WITH HIM AND DIDN'T REALIZE IT! Blech.

So, when is True Blood coming back?

this weeks episode

The endowment ceremony was shown along with some dialogue that probably passed by lots of non-mormons ears but REALLY shocked me that they ACTUALLY really said. Watching the ritual was really jarring for me.

Unresolved issues? I guess so!

  • First I started crying
  • then I wanted to throw up
  • then I thought about what it would have been like living in that world if I had married that guy
  • then I knew that I could never live in that environment and would have been pretty devastating to break away if I had let my membership continue in that church
  • then I felt sorry for those people that I loved who really believed this stuff LIKE MY PARENTS
  • Then I remembered that my father and my aunt were dressed in the temple clothes for their funerals
  • So that image made me want to throw up again.
  • I was finally relieved that I'm not in that community that it was all made up
So as you can figure out that was a roller coaster for me for a good five minutes

I'm okay now

Sunday midday

Well Hello,

I'm having a little trouble getting back into the habit of typing in here. This weekend is the perfect example as to why.

Incredible weekend, I really felt like I was able to have some fun.

At my current job, I have to bid for days off for the next year, each November. Of course I bid for prime weeks, like the holidays, but I also bid for at least one Friday each month for mental health days. Yesterday was a Friday mental health day. This coincided with our annual bonus, received Thursday.

I headed to the MAC store to get some ridiculously overpriced makeup brushes and as I walked in I was directed to a chair for a make over with MAC's Hello Kitty palette. I then walked into a few stores with many staring at my blue, blue shadowed eyes and I had to explain what the deal was.

Friday night, I got a drink at a restaurant I've always wanted to visit, got an amazing gelato and found some good linguine with white clam sauce, just a mile from my house.

Saturday, waxing (boo) and haircut (yay) then onto lunch with the BFF, her husband and my husband. We had quite a gap of time until our chosen movie was going to start so we headed to our favorite Italian food chain restaurant for pomegranate martinis, served by Dariya the mixtress. I called her the mixtress after the 2nd martini.

Saw Slumdog Millionaire. Just amazing.

Then headed to the BFF's house for pizza, absinthe and a hookah, with cappuccino flavored tobacco.

Which brings me here. Yes, lots of stuff happened, some really great dialogue with strangers, salon people, the BFF and the BFF spouse but I don't want to try and remember, I want to relax. I'm old, I have laundry to do and I'm trying to enjoy a coffee and a raspberry scone while watching the Independant Film awards. Tonight are the Oscars. I need a nap, I need to study for a quiz and I need to take the cat to the vet at 4pm.

I think this is all coming down to some justification for me getting and iPhone. I can blog as I go and my journal will be much more up to date and entertaining for me.

yeah, I need an iPhone.

Black Currants

At Costco earlier today, in the cereal section...

me: This looks good, black currants and walnuts
Dave: I hate black currants
me: this cereal is mine, pick one for yourself

He picks something with cranberries and macadamia nuts

Just now, I'm having my new cereal for my evening meal,

me: this cereal is pretty good, I love the black currants, how come you don't like them?
Dave: because they taste like crap
me: I love this cereal
Dave: then you love eating crap with milk pored over it.

I'm cleaning out the google reader

I'm tired from last night's party. I had one glass of wine and I woke up today at noon. A sure sign that I caught the cold that everyone has had this season.

blah.

I decided to clean up the google reader. I have unsubscribed from a few that have been inactive for a while, and un-starred some stories that I can't remember why I wanted to save them.

I am now going to start working on starred quizzes and surveys that I starred and never completed

where is breakfast

So the plan was to relax, get the laundry done, turn the a/c down so we can get the house cooled off to a decent temperature, and go to the store on Sunday, because who wants to drive any more? not me, not Dave. So we ordered a pizza for dinner.

It's just past 8:30 a.m. and I've been awake for about an hour. I have just realized that there really isn't anything to eat in the house. sad face.

When's dinner?

Paper is done! yeah for me. It's not due til Friday so I'm sure that I will tweak it as the week passes.

good news for me, I can relax until the final essay.

Time to break my 16 days of sobriety (that would be July 4th) and crack open one of the bottle of red wine we got today. I don't get how you can walk into a Costco and automatically spend $100. How does that happen?

Yes I absolutely needed that brie and Dave really needed the individual lunch packs of sliced apples. Hey that sounds pretty good together!

I did purchase the Dr. Horrible series at itunes and can't wait until the soundtrack is out.

I've been really busy at work and keeping the classes under control, but I'm starting to get into this weird worrisome mood. The financial thing is getting to me. Not that we are having any troubles ourselves, but I think that I've been reading too many articles about the economy and how so many families are ending up in financial ruin after medical emergencies. I had that fun little episode at the emergency room some days ago and yes we have an emergency fund but that could be wiped out with some seriously bad luck. But then what are the chances of that, really.

I worry too much when I'm dehydrated. Maybe I'll have a bottle of water.

Anyway, now I'm not spending, not going out to dinner, will be drinking at home with Dave, making up our own entertainment (maybe puppet shows?) and not making any purchases that are unnecessary. I really didn't need to get that Chanel powder compact two weeks ago (but it is fabulous). It has made me assess my "needs". I had three movies from netflix, in the house, unwatched for 2 months, so I canceled that. Dave sold my bike for a very good price. In fact we can use that cash for grocery money for the next couple of months.

I just want to be clear that the last thing that will go is the satellite TV service.

coffee in the morning

I'm sure lots of people have heard of a football widow. Me? I'm the Tour De France widow. I've been up since 7am. I made breakfast and Dave made the coffee. After a small tv remote battle, Dave made it pretty clear that he had no interest in watching Notes on a Scandal. He's downstairs watching the tour and I am now upstairs writing this and listening to Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog.

It's the last day to see it free so make sure that you see it! It so appeals to that teenage drama nerd inside of me. I love you NPH! "the hammer is my penis" LOVE THIS FAN SITE! I just tried order a Dr. Horrible t-shirt and they are already sold out.

So the Tour lasts a month and I am just blown away by the physical feat that those teams go through, but I just want to see the last day when they bike into Paris. It was different when Jan Ullrich or Floyd Landis were riding, since they were my favorites, but no favorites this year, so no interest for me. Anyway...for the month, He will be downstairs and I will amuse myself by hanging out up here, with my own tv and the computer.

I found this little gem this morning.

Paul Rudd competing in a speech tournament in High School. Ah the Speech Tournement, it does bring back memories. Oh the boys performing, from the others school, were so cute and talented. Not from my school. (ok, my school was State Champions so I will concede that they were talented) but I knew the boys from our school and knew they could be jerks. The after tournament party was always good for people watching.

I have an hour and a half of slack, then I'm heading to the library to start my midterm essay due on Friday. I really love the class. It's Religion and Moral Issues. The overview on moral philosophies is what I really like but what I don't like is the others in the class who have turned out to be extremely religious. They love to fill up our discussions on how their point of view is the right way. Ah, the devout crack me up. Their arguments are mostly to discount any views not theirs. I've been threatened with the fiery damnation of hell. ha ha ha.

a very "happy" Sunday

I appreciate the culture of gay but this Sunday has me watching a lot involving the gays.

My day started after waking up after a dream involving me planning my memorial service. I requested lots of disco and shirtless bartenders with feather boas.

Today, after brunch with a few of my friends, I came home and watched Small Town Gay Bar on the LOGO channel. Since then I have been watching a Kathy Griffin: Life on the D-List marathon on Bravo. One of the episodes was the Sydney Mardi Gras and now I want to go for the next one. I moved upstairs to see what was going on, on Perezhilton.com and caught the next video by Aziz, a gay Bulgarian pop star.

It's just that kinda day...

Sunday Morning

I just love that song by Maroon 5, Sunday Morning, very groovy. Like every song, it bubbles up memories, all good in this case. No, I will not share those here.

It is barely still morning, its about 11:30. Dave has gone to Costco to pick up our supplies for the week and the holiday weekend. Yes, our country's birthday is on Friday. I will celebrate by wearing this t-shirt from Walmart, and consume beer and bratwurst with my family. I love you America for the four day work week!

Good news on the school front. I have a very high A, an A+ you might say. The professor is hot but not really organized. It's a 5 week class so we meet for 4 1/2 hours on Monday and Wednesday. We watch lots of pop culture pieces (Movies, Documentaries, TV Episodes) and he repeats himself alot. Did I mention he was hot? I've been really tired lately and I think its because of the long hours in this class or I am exhausted from basking in his hotness. I will state that alot of his attractiveness for me is his smarts. I'm a sucker for a smart guy, leading a class, wearing a linen sportsjacket.
Dave and I saw a couple of movies this weekend. Friday night was Kung Fu Panda. Really, really funny. I will buy this DVD when it comes out. We followed the movie with a "Choose your own Slam" at Denny's. I like Denny's pancakes! So Sue Me! While we were waiting for coffee and food, I saw a small display of desserts and I said to Dave, "Let me see that". The picture on the left was what he did. I can't imagine where he got that "smart-ass" attitude from....hmmmm...it is a puzzler. Our server, Sam, openly made fun of us for seeing the movie. He kinda said, "KUNG FU PANDA, I'M GONNA SEE THAT WITH MY KID". Oh yeah Sam, you didn't want my 20%. Ok, I took in the fun that it was but he got 18%.

Saturday, we saw Wanted. I wanted to see it because James McAvoy is in it. I'm a sucker for an accent. Yes, he plays an American, but I still know that he's scottish. Dave says that a hobo with an Australian accent could charm me. He might be right. Who still uses the word Hobo? He went for the action type of movie that it is. I will say that it was great until it took a turn into unbelievableland and then it descended into suckville. We did have dinner at my favorite, Macaroni Grill for my favorite dish, Carmella's Chicken rigatoni. So yummy except for the uncooked pieces of pasta. Just a small mention to our favorite bartender (yeah he knows us, we usually go there for movie nights) and the entree was removed from my bill. 2 pomagranate martinis later, we headed across the parking lot for the movie.

I think that I've wasted enough time. See, here is a clue that I have a task to do that I don't want to get to quite yet. I have my final paper due and some chores and errands that need to happen before the end of the day. I will always take the time to type here before getting to what I need to do.

Next I will check out what to do on Mission Beach for a trip that isn't even happening for a couple of months.

Hello hello hello!

Look! a scrap metal giraffe! The picture is from my phone ok! That's why its so fuzzy.

Last night was our monthly family birthday party. I forgot that it was a pool party and forgot to pack my swimsuit and other pool accoutrement. My best friend has random anal-retentive planning skills and packed an extra suit, just in case someone needed one. Greg and Charlie, the couple hosting, had a gazillion extra suits, so Dave was able to borrow a purple pair. Last night officially was the beginning of summer. It was the first time in the pool and now I will probably be in the pool everyday that I don't have school in the evening.

The giraffe? The hosts picked it up at Gay Pride this year and I think I need to visit the artist and see about my own metal sculpture. I've always wanted a buddha for the courtyard. hmmmm

We had a new addition to the birthday party. He's been invited, literally, for the past decade(!) and he finally made it last night. We opened gift for the two birthday boys and 1 birthday girl, then Larry (the old/new guy) said he had gifts for all of us! Yeah, I love gifts for me! He's a mailman so we played the white elephant game with gift cards that he's recieved over the holidays! I got a Starbucks card and Dave got a Cold Stone Creamery card. In fact I'm using my card right now.

At the moment, I am at Fletcher Library on the ASU West campus. I have a test tomorrow and a paper due. I am easily distracted at home, so I had remove myself from an environment that included a Tivo. Lucky for me the library has a Starbucks in it. I finished my paper, did a fair bit of review and I'm now sipping on an iced coffee. My assumption was right, that I wouldn't run into anyone that I knew here. I have serious bedhead, I'm wearing the shirt that I was wearing last night and there is a bit of a frosting stain on it and some pretty ratty shoes. I'm not here to win a beauty contest, I had a task to complete.

I am closer to locking down plans for Dave's birthday. First we were going to have a big party. It's his 40th, this year. Then we planned on going to Vail to stay with some friends but we found a list of condos available as rentals by the week so we are in the process of locking down a condo on the beach in San Diego. Just us sitting on the beach listening to Joshua Radin and Rufus Wainwright. Well, I'll be listening to it. We have differing music tastes. He'll be listening to Country (shudder)

Let's see, what else has happened lately...

Last Saturday, we spent a spontaneous evening by the pool with Blair, Chris and Stephanie. Dave and I were at a dinner celebrating his friends 20th year a the local bike shop. This bike shop is a Phoenix institution. My dad took me there to get my first bike when I was four years old. It was really an enjoyable evening accept that half the conversation was about physical activity. I have heard of people that liked to run, by choice, but WOW, running in the Phoenix summer is nuts! Dave was in his element talking about 50 mile bike rides. I really enjoyed the pomegranate margarita.

Luckily, I received a few text messages from Blair and Stephanie, I called them after we were leaving dinner and invited myself over to Blair's house. Stephanie has found love in a very short amount of time. The time that she has know the new guy could be measured in weeks maybe months and she is pseudo-moving in with him. It would only be shocking if she hadn't been through a pretty icky relationship and breakup. I think that at our age we quickly know what we don't want and can recognize a good thing much faster.

I think that one of my favorite thing is when my friends find the right type of guy. (Stephanie and Blair, I'm calling you friends, I might consider a welcome or good night hug next time I see you. How would you feel about the european both-cheeks air kiss?) It also kinda suck when they are with the wrong person and you know they are with the wrong person but they don't.

I know that I'm with the right person. There have been a few people who could have been the right person but one said "don't fall in love with me because I'm not going to fall in love with you", right at the beginning so I didn't. We were pretty compatible for the couple of years that we were together and we could have been great after we both grew up. The other (the only other person that I thought I loved and might have married) would have locked me into a religion that I definitely had doubts about and would have been pretty devastating for him when I eventually became an atheist and I made it clear that I wasn't having any children.

Dave lets me listen to this in the car even though he hates it. That's love right there!

brunch decision

Yes, Blair, I know you're asking yourself,

"If Anne's can sign into her site and type there, why can't she get a little more involved with the brunch choice process?"

My small journal entry today is a coping mechanism after hearing about Non-American Sexual Activities. I will never be the same.

and by the way, when I told Dave, it did work, He stopped talking in his drawl. In fact he sat in stunned silence for a bit.

Thanks Buddy!

Schools Out

My last paper is written and submitted online for Native People of the Southwest (that should be an "A") and I've just returned from my final for Italian 101.

As always, I've locked in a "B" but I don't think I've learned anything. It will come in handy in an Italian emergency. I was in Paris many years ago, and it was amazing what comes back to you when you need directions or need to eat.

I had another lovely outing with Andrew and Blair. I think that I'm letting my "crazy" show a little too much, and need to rein it in, but they are lots -o- fun to talk to. They get my references.

The place that we had breakfast was a nice surprise sitting in the middle of downtown Phoenix, a historic home open for breakfast and lunch. It would be a great place to drink tea and read. I brought Dave home a banana cookie and he didn't like it; he said it was too doughy. It all can't be perfect.

I can't help regressing and giving Andrew a hard time. He opens his mouth and I can't stop the dig or sarcastic remark. agh. Really, I swear, I usually act like a respectable 38 year old, really! Sorry Andrew! We left with a promise to meet up in the New Year.

Wow 2008, I can't believe it.

musings

Your Kissing Purity Score: 17% Pure

For you, it's all kiss and no talk.

You're in a permanent lip lock.

You Are 20% Pure

You've either done it, thought about it, or at least heard about it.
Luckily, there's a few things left for you to try!

I was feeling a little ordinary and normal this weekend. I was thinking about what I wanted to write here, in this online journal, and I must say that my days are uneventful.

I took the above quizzes just to see what they'd asked and with most of the quesions I answered, I thought "yeah, who hasn't?" I guess the difference is that I don't do those things now,...well some of them...heh heh

I'm not as forthcoming with information that some brave souls are in there own spaces on the net, but in the past year, things have been really really non-exciting.

I did drop a few friends this last year that were filled with drama and not that I didn't love them but I can only take up to about 20 years of your selfish, vain, it's not my fault that my life is in the shitter attitude. (yeah it is!) There are other cities besides Phoenix, pick one and start over.

If I'm still taking your emails or phonecalls, please be assured that I'm not talking about you. I love you! you are the wind beneath my wings and don't you forget it!

My final yesterday went really well and I scored an 88% on a MATH final! I hate math and only have gotten Cs or lower in the past, so I'm pretty proud of myself. I think that I may have gotten an A for the class but will have to wait and see if the instructor will spot me a point.

Dave and I just had our 9th wedding anniversary on the 17th. It was uneventful because we are in a non-spending mode at the moment. We have big plans for next year though. If anyone knows about an exciting get away let me know. So far it looks like we might go to Oregon or Washington.

My sister gave me some ideas for Dave's birthday party next year and it seems promising. Something about a downtown bar that has a roof top patio we could maybe rent out. I think that might be too hot for an August party but we'll have to take a look at it. I did like the party they had at Coach and Willies so that's a possibility too.

Really, this is just sad...I have no drama to write about and who wants a tame blog. I should have started writing a couple of years ago when I would have had lots to write about and dammit my life is just perfect now. sigh...

(confession time...well...actually there was one but its hidden away with my stupid choices made in the past)
