My current Facebook status says, "After I left the salon, the manicurist asked my BFF HOW I married a WHITE GUY"
Saturday morning Talullah Toyota, (the given name of my 4Runner) had to get her oil changed. Dave dropped me at the salon then came and picked me up at noon. I had a nail appointment at the same time that my best friend, Heather, had an appointment with our hair guy, Tony, so after she saw how cute my nails were she decided to get a manicure while her hair color was setting. I was chatted with her and Tony and the manicurist when Dave walked in. He stepped over to say hello to Tony while Heather and I wrapped up our conversation about meeting later that day for pomagranate martinis and a movie.
The manicurist asked if that was my friend and I said that's my husband, said goodbye to everyone and left.
So we meet Heather and Dean for food at about 3pm and she tells me what happened after I left. The manicurist asked Heather if that was my friend and she said no that's her husband.
M: That's her HUSBAND!?! HOW DID THAT HAPPEN!?! HE'S SO LIGHT!?!
Then she asks Heather about my history with Dave, How did we meet, how long did we date, how long have we been married...?
Seriously I find this completly funny.
I update my status on Twitter (which updates Facebook) then send a message to the only former boyfriend on Facebook that apparently I was lucky to have him since he is white. Totally funny. Anyway, It's the main reason why I dated him, because he's white (jk) I am a smart ass, can you tell?
Anyway, the martinis were amazing and the movie was really good. I am totally smitten with Jason Segal and Paul Rudd.
Its probably because they're white guys.

The baby's new job
My little sister graduated in May with a B.S. in Criminalogy and has finally been offered a position in her field, Criminal Investigation. Woo HOO!
She's going through the backround check process, so that will take some time.
She called me this morning to meet her at the IHOP to discuss the new opportunity.
me: So tell me about the job, what will you be doing?
Her: I'll be fighting crime, like batman.

some good news
my buddy was in surgery for the same time that I was required to be at work, yesterday. 8 to 4:30. I disease thought long gone 18 years ago returned. He said that he knew it was back when he got a familiar taste in his mouth, metallic, like he was sucking on a penny.
I have a busy schedule today but a girlfriend is texting me updates. The last one I got was the surgeon said that everything went well. smiley face
It's 10 am and I should be out of the house by now...

It's 10 am and I should be out of the house by now...
- I'm supposed to be at the ASU bookstore RIGHT NOW for my textbooks, which is about 10 miles to the west of my house.
- I have to get two presents for the family birthday lunch in Scottsdale and that is 15 miles east from my house (get how that's 25 miles from ASU) Yeah lunch is at 1:30 hmmm
- I then have to get to the grocery store for the BBQ tonight, because the invitation said all food is provided just bring yourself but apparently I'm still expected to show up with guacomole.
- I didn't even like guacamole until this year, weird that my recipe is coveted by many
- then I have to drive to the BBQ in freaking Surprise AZ, a twenty mile trip west of the house.
- Luckily one of my friends, Crystal, lives nearby and i will be going to house afterward for chatting and a bottle of wine.
- As an added bonus, We are going to see Jake Johannsen at the improv on Sunday night.
- Wow, good thing gas prices are coming down...

Movie Morning
Yes, Batman is as good as everyone says. Heath is amazing and his performance is a gajillion times better than the critics have told you all.
See it!
Christian Bale in a suit, driving a lamborghini is a personal highlight of mine.
My sister kept giggling throughout the movie when Christian Bale spoke in his husky Batman voice. Remember on Friends when Joey got the job as cologne spritzer at bloomingdales and he had a run in with the cologne spritzer, who was dressed as a cowboy? Yeah, Batman's voice sounded like the cowboy who kept saying, "Hombre?"
There is definitely alot of hotness on that screen, Christian Bale, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, Heath Ledger and a bit of Cillian Murphy at the beginning. Oh and Gary Oldman, love him.
Next movie I cant wait to see is Star Wars: Clone Wars, but that is next month, Mama Mia but I have to find some girls to go with.
and Tropic Thunder, but since it won't be today, I will have to settle for this,

So whats the latest with me?
**Check out the right side of my page. I've changed up my blog roll by trying out blogger's new option. It allowed me to import my reader subscriptions, so lots of new stuff there.***Update***I was playing with this new feature and deleted it, reload my list in again and now it won't reload them in, so sorry all gone***
I have an assignment due by tomorrow at noon so I thought that this would be a great time to catch up. What a surprise! I can confirm that I did get an A+ and a nice email from Professor Hottie that he enjoyed having me in class, my ideas added to class discussion were relevant and thought provoking. I think that he just liked it that I laughed at his jokes that pertained to the decade we grew up in.
I spent a lovey 4 hours in the emergency room on very early Friday morning. If you want to freak out the one you love. wake them up at 1:30 in the morning to tell them that you can't breath and you are have major pressure on your chest. No worries, the EKG was fine, but apparently I have asthma. A nice little present as I approach forty. My numb left arm came from me sleeping on it, apparently. They believe that is has to do with allergy season being brutal during this monsoon, pollution and me taking more than usual spin classes this week and breathing in very deeply. Basically a lung full of pollution and particles.
My best friend, Heather, said that a bronchial spasm is much preferred to the heart attack scenario.
And then we both started laughing, verging on cackling.
And that is why she is my BFF.
We are finally finishing the last major renovation in the house. Dave and his best friend Dan pulled out the vanity from our upstairs bathroom, pulled out the 1974 linoleum and put down ceramic tile. Tonight we are heading to Home Depot to get the paint for the bathroom. It's got to be done before the new vanity is put in.
I need to a search on paint colors, so see you later!

Me: You might think that would ease my mind.
Heather: Now why wouldn't it?
Me: It just add to my death scenario choice. A heart attack can be swift if its going to kill you, not always but I can hope. With the asthma attack, for five minutes, I will be trapped in my body as my eyes turn blood shot red, as they search silently for help before I slip into nothingness.

quick quick quick
Just a little note before my esthetician appointment for a facial and some waxing. I hope the former is more relaxing than the latter.
Had dinner last night with Dave's friends who I like, have met once before, but now know too much about their marital congress, religious beliefs and political leanings. Horror of horrors, they are huggers. AHHHHHH!
Great food and a nice glass of wine and the fact that she is friends with the owner of a high end handbag shop ended the evening on a positive note.
So I have the aforementioned appointment, after which I need to begin to write a paper and then we are going to a party for one of Dave's friends. Tomorrow is Father's Day so I know there won't be any random calls tomorrow to my house. Peace. Sunday the day of rest.
If you don't have a father or are not a father, ring me.

Good Morning
I turned the tv on when I woke up, as usual, a very bad habit, and Before Sunrise was playing. A movie about a long conversation. Ok it's more than that but I love the conversation, when these two people meet for the first time. So, now as I write this Before Sunset is playing.
I have been doing a lot better in making sure I don't make too many plans. I have brunch planned at a friends house on Sunday, and that's all I want to do. I was very good at deflecting a few invitation this week until last night at dinner.
My bartender is having a graduation party tonight. My invite is written on a cocktail napkin downstairs. I'm thinking that I don't need to have a drink with the 23 year old graduate and his friends. I need to make sure that my 38 year old self goes to bed at a decent hour.
So I've just decided, I'm not going.
After fixing my breakfast, to Forever Blue by Chris Isaak, and juggling my small plate, a mug and a pot of tea, here I sit to catch up. Dave works every other Saturday, so I'm alone.
I've perused the secrets site that I like. Someone on the site has been including Barenaked Ladies lyrics while writing about how they feel about another. I love that. Another wrote a few lines about the men that she has been with in her life. I was thinking about doing the x365 project but when I have memories about others, I either think about how unkind I was to them or I could go on and on and on and on about how wonderful they were. It would be a lot of work to complete.
Speaking of memories, because so many have bubbled up in this last year, I was forwarded a picture of a boy (ok he's a few years older than me) that I just thought was the cutest thing. Big boy scout factor, very kind, ginger hair...sigh. The one time we got pissed off at each other was kind of exciting because it turned out that I was right. Well, I wasn't but to appease me, he apologized and took me out drinking. Lots of things can be settled with a few cocktails when you are 23. I was so happy to hear that he got married, finally. We had many late night conversations about him finding the right girl. I introduced him to tequila.
School starts Monday. I'm so not thrilled about the cost of the parking.
I'm going to start my day of slack. I have 3 movies from my netflix queue that have been sitting in my house for a month, so I'll watch those and then get my hair cut.

...chicks and guns and fire trucks and hookers and drugs and booze...
This Saturday has been like no other I've had in a very very long time. I spoke of a plan hatching and the mission was completed but it was not exactly how I thought it would be.
Friday night, I went to a Happy Hour with two work friends, as we were all promoted together. I was the first one to the place and responsible for securing a table. As I was driving over, parking and waiting for the arrival of the girls, I thought I'd check in with Andrew.
Andrew was going to be joining me, Blair and Erin for an evening out on Saturday. He had mentioned that he wasn't drinking, so I called him to get myself a designated driver. The conversation was very upbeat, a change in him from the last few months. We all have troubles and he had happenned to be going through some things and his old sparkle was gone.
I really hated him my freshman year in High School and then we became fast friends starting our Sophmore year '84/'85 and we kept in touch after High School until 1993. When we were both in town we would definately meet up and go out for some very platonic fun. What I love about him is that he was always happy, up for a laugh and always in on an adventure. When he was quiet during breakfast and his voice was sounding a little low, a was bit worried but Friday he sounded really happy. What is most important, because its all about me, he agreed to be my driver for the evening.
He arrived at my home slightly late. I gave him the wrong directions. I'm the worst at given directions. Sorry! I climbed in the car and noticed that he was wearing glasses. It's one of those things;the getting older things, we're approaching forty and he now has to wear glasses for driving. What struck me most was that he really looked like someone's parent; he looked like a dad. When he started singing to the radio, Black hole sun, Won't you come, Won't you come...I had to belly laugh!! He pegged it when he said, Am I having a Chevy Chase moment, the comedic Dad?
We arrived at the Restaurant, famous for it's tropical drinks, and found a spot on their patio. My feet had been killing me for the last couple of days. (damn rheumatiod arthritis) and the 1st cocktail helped control the foot pain...the 2nd didn't hurt either...We were joined by Erin and Blair quickly after. We drank, gossiped and shared some appetizers, which were...ok..
And then...
We thought that this might be the opportunity to go to a strip club. The finest girls in the Valley. I happen to have passes to get into this club, which would waive the entry fee of $20 for 4 people. I would be really interested on what the anthropologist in the group thought of the experience. Seeing a friend get two lap dances and then discuss what, if anything, turns him on about the girls, was a little out of the comfort zone, but not as disturbing as I thought it would be. I was slightly jealous to learn that someone had been to Scores in Manhattan and another had been to a club in Las Vegas. And it turns out that a male person in the group, who I won't name...hmmm I wonder who that is, has been more than a few times. Once again I'm experiencing something that everyone already has...sigh... a half an hour of fun was enough so we heading to a place with dancing.
Of course, now my hips hurt and my feet still hurt today, and we didn't dance that long! We sat in a booth and chatted for the remainder of the evening.
Next, we all need to go to Amsterdams for martinis

Lazy Saturday
Dave and I headed out today to try a cafe we've always wanted to try. When the name of the cafe has the word "Europa" in it, we were sure that we would find an espresso inside. They had coffee in thermos'...sigh
It turned out to be a Polish bakery, so we picked up a few tasty things and headed for the corporation a half a block down the street.
The picture of my sweetbaby? Well, I took this after we discussed his trip down the Colorado River. He drifted off into his own thoughts on the good time he will have and then called his best friend to tell him that I said it was a "go".

Saturday
My sister missed her flight this morning and will be coming in tomorrow morning. With news of this, all cleaning stopped and I am now doing my best to do nothing, really, but thought I’d post a new boring entry. It’s either this or a nap.
I had a very interesting happy hour with the über-sexy Toddster on Wednesday. (Toddster has requested that I refer to him as the aforementioned moniker). We both were exhausted; maybe Phoenix Winter sedation is in affect.
I suggested that I refer to him as “Chocolate Love” but he is resisting it. Just go with it, C.L.
It was a very low key conversation about how work is, how our respective spouses are and what is generally up in our lives. He has a very scary ex-spouse and a very scary episode that he just got through with, involving her. He’s one of those people you can only wish the best for and I’m very, very happy that he found his current wife, since they seem pretty near to perfect. I would be shocked to learn otherwise. You never know though; when I shared with my best friend that I was having some troubles in my own marriage in 2005 (definitely no issues now, by the way) her first reaction was that we were her model of a perfect couple and she questioned her own view of reality if we weren’t happy, but I digress…
Since we work on separate floors now in a big building, we don’t talk much but, try to maintain a text conversation whenever possible. We shared some unknown facts about our lives and some pot stickers. He did tell me that smart people are quick to judge others because they have no time for bullshit. He tells me that this is the reason why I hated him when we first met. I was not offended but responded by saying that his very smart quips, his wavy blond locks and his beautiful lips won me over. He needs blue eyes and a better self esteem. He is 5 years older than me, and I do love older men…sigh. Toddster is a great friend.
I just got off of the phone with my sister in law. She and her 4 children have arrived in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and are having a great time. My nephew Sean asked who was on the phone and I had to ask if he had turned 23 magically! His voice has changed since I last had seen him. I hear that he was also the target of cougar attention at a birthday party this weekend. Another sister in law is from Brazil and had some friends over for her son’s birthday party. They kept taking pictures with him and telling him how good looking he was. He’s going to be 14 on the 26th. Back Off!!! Oh how disgusting. Oh I wish I could go with Dave to visit. He has been instructed to take lots of pictures.
My sister in law did say that our niece (with leukemia), age 3, is feeling very well. Very energetic and having lots of fun. She told her father, when he asked her to not run in the house or roughhouse with her brothers, “what am I supposed to do Dad, I have leukemia!” She definitely has got the smart ass gene that runs through the family.
We have a few Christmas parties done with, which were much fun, but I just wish that there would be one party that doesn’t require us to bring a gift, $15 or under for the Yankee swap or White Elephant game. Can’t we just eat and drink by a bonfire or fire place? I did meet some very nice people.
We saw “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox story” 5 stars, two thumbs up! So funny, if you like Cox jokes. The weekend we’ll see “Sweeney Todd” and I hope to see “Atonement” and “Juno”
A phone call from my sweetbaby; he’s on his way home. Well I have to meet him at the door in pearls and red lipstick (ala June Cleaver) with dinner, his slippers, smoking jacket and pipe at the ready; must go…

Reunion Saturday Night
The 20th High School reunion last night was a success. Of course my feet are paying for it, as usual, I woke up this morning sensing that they were really hurting, stood up to walk to my shower and promptly fell back on the bed. Rheumatoid Arthritis is a bummer. They're working now but still really hurt. Now I'm stuck upstairs. Dave is leading a bike ride for the bike shop and I want breakfast and can't walk down the stairs or stand at the stove for more than a few minutes. Grrrrr.
But really, I had a night shaking my groove thing and so for me it was all worth it. I still feel the shame of not remembering the Macarena.
I did meet a few very nice people that I don't remember from High School. Our graduating class was between six and seven hundred so you can't remember everyone. The one's I do remember were the same lovely people, lots of fun and commiserating about a mutually shared GPA. The committee did a great job; dinner was pretty darn good and I have a lovely gift bag filled with snacks that are sustaining me until Dave gets home and makes me some eggs.

ahhhhh sunday
My favorite day.
Dave does his 40 miles on his thin-tired bike and only returns to the house at about 10am. I may have or may have not gotten out of bed yet, but today I was awake.
He walked in just in time to help with breakfast, but didn't. (whatever) I got the french press working and made sure that my sweetbaby's bacon was crispy while making sure that my dance routine of Gimme More by Miz Spears was what she should have done on that fateful VMA's. I even got a twirl and a dip in when Dave entered the kitchen. Shame on you Miz Spears.
After Umbrella by Rihanna I was a little tired and the eggs were done so we sat down to breakfast and started planning what we wanted to do next to the house.
The alcove for the clothes washer and dryer is framed out for doors that don't exist anymore. I told Dave that it would be nice to get rid of those bits of wall, you know, someday. I went up stairs and started my paper when I heard quite a bit of noise, grinding, pounding and ripping. Well, Dave is working on drywalling the holes in the wall and already the washer and dryer area is brighter. Yes, there are other areas that need improvement in the house but you can't stop Dave when he wants to do a project.
I don't have a downstairs closet any longer. Same kinda discussion and action happened. Our stairwell had a small closet but a neighbor of ours had her closet back wall knocked out and the whole space under the stairs was covered in pegboard and shelves. We were on our way out of the house to a bookstore to hangout (at the Biltmore) and I said while buckling up, "we should do that someday..." Yeah, uh, I don't have a closet anymore.
At least he's a take action sort of guy instead wallowing in uncertainty. Well, except for one thing, his 40th birthday party. He wants a big one and we have until next August.
Dave, I need suggestions for a menu, where do you want to have it? Pony rides? jugglers? Tequila Shooter girls? Mimes? (OK I threw that in for Marcel Marceau, may he rest in peace; Dave would probably kick the crap out of a Mime)
If y'all have any suggestions, let me know. Right now it looks like it going to be at an Irish pub on Camelback but he doesn't want to be locked into that quite yet. Oh and you all are invited.
So my place has a few holes in the walls from Dave's "improvements" but I moved the living room furniture around twice on Saturday and he puts up with that.
As the reunion approaches (Camelback Class of '87) a memory occurred to me as I was reaching for the orange juice this morning (actually I had a nightmare about the reunion last night so I guess its not that surprising) and this may be a story from the past from a reader, Blair.
I was sitting in an Honors English class wondering why I was there. It seems that the teacher, Mrs. Oates didn't realize that it was Honors not remedial English and gave us these ludicrous assignments. We read a book like, Where the Red Fern Grows, and then she had us answer a list of about 150 questions about the book. Really, there was no real way to answer these questions except for 1 or 2 words. The 2nd book is assigned and the same thing happens, another set of questions. Maybe it was so she didn't have to lecture or create any discussion about it. Being only a sophomore and a good girl I felt trapped as I couldn't really question why this was happening and then one day I saw Blair pick up her things and leave. In that instance I said to myself "why not?" and I left too and didn't come back.
Yes I had to retake the class but it was in my Senior year with a much better teacher who I suspect was gay, he wore a bow tie everyday and let me do essays on my favorite British comedies showing on PBS. We would discuss the last Doctor in the House or Fawlty Towers episode when the rest of the class were in groups discussing the latest project.
Well, the drama club, Masque and Gavel, asked for volunteers to visit classes to sell tickets for the Spring Play and guess which two girls made a visit to Mrs. Oates class. I had people mention that little visit in Junior and Senior year. Those adolescent adventures make me chuckle.

As I sat in a dance recital for tweens, there was so much that I felt that I felt that I wanted to type down but now I'm just going to say this. What was with the girls with too much babyfat in too small costumes? If i were a parent, I would think that I would be very angry about my daughter sliding on her knees in the big finish and arching backwards in a pair of boy shorts and half shirt.
" and 1 and 2 and turn and step and slide and BELLY"
My friend's nieces were in the recitals. They are 9 and 11. I know the girls. We four go to lunch at red lobster and paint ceramics on a few saturday's past. Before the concert my friend and I went to Ra for sushi and fortified ourselves with cosmos. The nieces were very good.
The recital was at a high school that I had been at for a speech tournament in high school. I got in trouble at that tournament by calling a boy to come and see me since he lived about a mile away and I ended up missing the bus back to my own school at the end of the day. I wonder what Joe's doing now. i think he lives in scottsdale. Well, it helped with the parking since I remembered where the auditorium was. The stage seemed smaller.
Dave and I went to see Evan Almighty and it was pretty good. Yes, a hokey ending but it's not trying to win an Oscar. Great Loggins & Messina joke. We also made it out to the pool and stayed out until Dave started turning red.
