I turned the tv on when I woke up, as usual, a very bad habit, and Before Sunrise was playing. A movie about a long conversation. Ok it's more than that but I love the conversation, when these two people meet for the first time. So, now as I write this Before Sunset is playing.
I have been doing a lot better in making sure I don't make too many plans. I have brunch planned at a friends house on Sunday, and that's all I want to do. I was very good at deflecting a few invitation this week until last night at dinner.
My bartender is having a graduation party tonight. My invite is written on a cocktail napkin downstairs. I'm thinking that I don't need to have a drink with the 23 year old graduate and his friends. I need to make sure that my 38 year old self goes to bed at a decent hour.
So I've just decided, I'm not going.
After fixing my breakfast, to Forever Blue by Chris Isaak, and juggling my small plate, a mug and a pot of tea, here I sit to catch up. Dave works every other Saturday, so I'm alone.
I've perused the secrets site that I like. Someone on the site has been including Barenaked Ladies lyrics while writing about how they feel about another. I love that. Another wrote a few lines about the men that she has been with in her life. I was thinking about doing the x365 project but when I have memories about others, I either think about how unkind I was to them or I could go on and on and on and on about how wonderful they were. It would be a lot of work to complete.
Speaking of memories, because so many have bubbled up in this last year, I was forwarded a picture of a boy (ok he's a few years older than me) that I just thought was the cutest thing. Big boy scout factor, very kind, ginger hair...sigh. The one time we got pissed off at each other was kind of exciting because it turned out that I was right. Well, I wasn't but to appease me, he apologized and took me out drinking. Lots of things can be settled with a few cocktails when you are 23. I was so happy to hear that he got married, finally. We had many late night conversations about him finding the right girl. I introduced him to tequila.
School starts Monday. I'm so not thrilled about the cost of the parking.
I'm going to start my day of slack. I have 3 movies from my netflix queue that have been sitting in my house for a month, so I'll watch those and then get my hair cut.

Crystal: lol
me: Dave is so happy I tried it that i'm totally gonna get laid.

The Happiest Hour
I was thinking that I was going to be stood up. Again. Todd and Jeff were to arrive at the Native New Yorker for Happy Hour before the long weekend. Dave and I were there a little early, enjoying a cocktail and appetizers, just waiting for the call that they weren't able to make it. Not that it's a big thing but they seem to cancel at the last minute, when we make plans, more than my other friends. Actually they are my only friends who do this.
So they arrive and Dave and Jeff talk about guns and I blow kisses to Toddster. As always, I'm one of the guys. Story of my life...
The guys talk about guns, and crazy girls and wife issues, well I guess it was agreed that Todd and Dave don't have crazy wives (that includes me!), and Todd eats the rest of my french fries.
So I learned a few things. Apparently, I am a normal, steady, predictable person. I am not crazy, I am now weighed down by wisdom. A crazy women is a women over 30 who hasn't dealt with her demons from her teens or twenties and makes their man's life hell.
This is big, really big. I have demons from my teens and twenties, more than most, I think. I guess most would feel the same way. The difference is that I don't think about them anymore. There are a few moments that they do pop up but it normally happens when I'm talking to someone who knew me then. I tend to regress to when I knew these people, when talking to them. That doesn't happen often. In these situations, though, my husband doesn't have to deal with them and that's a good thing.
What is also different when those memories pop up over the last three years, is that I think only of the good things now. This was apparent when I spoke to the ex a few weeks ago. I wrote that it was generally all pretty good and that is what I'm remembering initially. I'm sure I was just hell on him being the overwrought 22, 23, 24 year old that I was. That poor, poor man. He probably had the brunt of it and then my husband.
We met in August 1995 and married in October 1998. There is a reason why I didn't marry for three years after meeting this great guy. It's because I was "crazy" (as Todd says, while making the quote signs with his hands). There were extenuating external circumstances as well. Just wanted to throw that in. I guess it wasn't all me. We grew up together and it all worked out. Yeah Team!
So the Happiest Hour began with a hail storm and then continued to rain (I loved that!), I found a new place for fish fry on Friday (they grill the haddock and it's huge!) and my friends say I'm really cool with my sweetbaby agreeing.
Then Jeff talked about the picture he texted to me. He called me stuck up and then sent me a picture of dog poo. Yes, I'm still one of the guys.

That's right bitches, when you need a craft done...well I'm capable but don't call me. Not bad, huh?
Lil John is telling me to Get Low
dance party "to the window, to the wall..."
then drop it like it's hot
trying to delay a craft project
I have to make little paper life preservers and attach them to a basket. It's something for work, if you can believe it, and I'm having craft night at church flashbacks. I was just not able to hack the crafty lifestyle that my former church seemed to require.
So, tried to sign up for Facebook, after I was talked into it this morning and I just couldn't do it. It looked like it would suck away all of my extra time. I chose me this time. Actually, its really easy for me to choose me. I'm selfish. Sorry, girls.
Azcentral.com says that it hit 100 degrees officially at 12:39 pm today. It's on.

Trying to stay in my jammies
I am trying not to move into action mode for as long as I can on this Saturday morning. I'm hosting a party today; a celebration for someone else, and I have to head to the salon in about twenty minutes, so these quiet moments before the day starts are pretty important. Dave's at work so I have the house to myself.
I've just been hanging out, making the sure the cats don't kill each other. They met for the first time last night after a month of quarantine for Seamus. So far it looks like they are fast friends and have been playing around the house.
and "Yes" that is again another REM video. They are one of my top three bands I LOVE and this one actually has my cutie pie, Mike Mills, singing lead instead of Michael Stipe. I just love those bass players. Dave, I think, is going to buy a bass soon and start playing again.

tired tired tired
iPod is playing Stealing My Love from Me by Lulu. I've always wanted to dance like the kids in To Sir with Love and I practice to this song.
I'm tired, everyone's tired. For me it's the weird weather. I bitched about the heat coming and then it rained yesterday. go figure.
I was planning on an evening with the girls on Friday, but the host had to postpone our evening of red wine and gossip by the fire pit. I texted Toddster to see if we could go to one of our memorable happy hours but he's not available until next friday. Always guaranteed to be a happy couple of hours except we can't go back to a particular restaurant due to the graphic nature of our conversation overhead by our waitress the last time we were there. The hand motions to illustrate your story was not helping either. Thanks alot Toddster! My day was also hectic and loooong, so these little tiny disappointments were bringing me down.
When we came home and flipped on the tv, I had an instant lift in my attitude. Smokey and the Bandit was on and it was about the time when Snowman drives his semi over the hippie's bikes. I watched until just after Bandit "slid into the rocking chair". It's the small things that make me happy.
Time for the news and bed...

brunch decision
Yes, Blair, I know you're asking yourself,
"If Anne's can sign into her site and type there, why can't she get a little more involved with the brunch choice process?"
My small journal entry today is a coping mechanism after hearing about Non-American Sexual Activities. I will never be the same.
and by the way, when I told Dave, it did work, He stopped talking in his drawl. In fact he sat in stunned silence for a bit.
Thanks Buddy!

present for Dave
I think I have an idea for my present to Dave on our 10th anniversary in October. I think he needs to go on a bike tour. He gets to do what he loves, and I get the house to my self.

Summer is coming
Everyone that I spoke to, waved to, had a meeting with, all of them looked exhausted or hung over. It happens every year. I can't decide if it's really a result of the change in temperature or everyone heard that it's going to be in the triple digits by this weekend and they feel like the heat is going to win. The guy who gives me my scrambled eggs in the morning in the cafeteria took one look at me and asked me if my allergies were acting up...WTF? Goddammit, I am fabulous! How dare he insinuate otherwise. Don't think you look so wonderful in your paper hat, egg guy!
Dave is at the gym so I get a bit of quiet time. I just love my alone time, always have. At least we know we are complete opposites and have accepted that we don't have to be together all the time. I can't go to the gym until my sprained foot is better anyway.
darn it for me.
At the moment, In the Sun by Joseph Arthur is playing. I love that song.
As usual, not much is new. The weekend was low key for me. Dave had a guys day out on Saturday, going to a cigar and tequila tasting from 2 to 6. He was asleep by 9:30. Apparently there is a pomegranate infused tequila that I must buy.
Sunday morning, we headed to Palatte for breakfast. Thanks for introducing me to that place, Blair. Like most people I have a soundtrack to life, don't you? Music is a big part of my memories. Well, the singer with the guitar was killing me softly with his songs! The singer is usually in the courtyard outside and if I happenned to hear a song I like, it makes my breakfast experience a better one. Sunday, he moved his setup into the house and so there was no mistaking what his song was. A song by Oasis, Mazzy Star, the Shins, Chris Issak, Colin Hay, REM..it just kept going. I had a memory for most of the songs. It probably didn't help that I had like 5 cups of coffee.
So we are lazy people and headed to the neighborhood restaurant, Corbin's, and had a grilled cheese sandwich, for our supper. Scoop, my bartender, said, "You have a new cat, don't you? Happy Mother's Day", as he handed to me a very nice red rose. That stupid cat destroyed it when I turned my back for a few moments, after laying it down when we got home.
No news from the In-Laws. I successfully avoided the father-in-law the two weeks he was in town. It's the small things in life that make me happy
like,
Driving home from work, I sang along with the radio as loud as I could. The song was The Best of Times by Styx.

memories
I just finished a snack after talking for a really long time to an ex from my past and it was really kinda great. (clarification: I guess I mean the snack and the conversation)
See, I had this random thought after musing on REM's new CD and after a small chain of events I ended up with his phone number in an email. The email was sent by him, I'm not a stalker.
I did anticipate apologizing for being a stupid young selfish girl if I had the chance to talk to him ever again but I was a little surprised about how I felt when he agreed with me. Eh, I'm over it now.
So now random memories (all good) have started popping up. That much we agreed on, it was generally all pretty good except for issues that I can attribute to my youth.
So glad to hear from you, Scotty! Yeah, I don't think I ever called you Scotty before...

drawl
This morning, Dave and I saw montage commercial of the Hot Men on the Encore Love channel.
Matthew McConaughey said somewhere in there, "My accent hasn't hurt me none with the ladies".
Yeah
Dave repeated the line and now is only speaking in his Texas accent.
It's been going on for the last hour.
help.

songs from my youth
My whole family (both parents and all 8 of my siblings) must have had abit of the Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome (a circadian rhythm disorder). Lots of us were used to sleeping very late in the day after having watch a "b" movie on Channel 5 very very early in the morning. A contributing factor to all this was that we all were used to falling asleep with the television or radio turned on.
I was reading this post and it brought up a memory that still really creeps me out. I must have been 8 years old and fallen asleep on the ground in front of the television. I woke up in that half awake state where you are aware of your surroundings but really can't move. Someone had thrown a blanket over me and I now had a pillow, the tv was turned off and I could see a clock radio glowing across the room. Everything was very still and playing on the radio was Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce. Jim Croce is now one of my favorites but it makes me fidget to listen to that song. It felt like I was stuck in that song and I didn't really understand what it meant. I panicked, trying to make myself fall asleep and escape it since I couldn't move and turn it off. It felt like an eternity but how long does a song really last? two minutes?

Las Vegas Pictures
So I was too busy trying to get another cocktail than get pictures, but here are the ones that I promised to post.

Here is the view from our 29th floor premier room (it just means we have a slightly bigger room and a view). The big pool of water is in front of the Bellagio across the street. No dancing waters on our trip as it was too windy.

An iPod dock on our bed side table. Dave doesn't like my music so the iPod docked was undocked and used on the flight home.

Isn't that the sexiest thing that you have ever laid eyes on...If Dave would just move out of the way. He's blocking my view!
It's just like we're walking along the Seine...except we are completely indoors...and there is a Keno screen on the building above the middle door.

We meandered around the Venetian before Blue Man Group started. Dave would only agree to go on the gondolas if they WOULDN'T sing. The consolation prize for me was that I made him come with me to visit the stores for Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin.

We decided to sit a moment before the show started and I had the best cocktail of my life, the cucumber martini. yum. Pictured is the Aqua Water and the Red Lotus, both scrumptious.

I may have mentioned that it was really windy for the few days we were in Vegas. Well, here is my fuzzy picture of the strip from atop of the little Eiffel Tower. I was shaking. I paid $10 to stand in the wind high above the strip.

A memory from the past
An old friend forwarded a link to me. That link belongs to a blog of an ex from the early 90's.
I told him this song was about him. Only the beginning was about him.
