We are going to try and get a new kitten, tomorrow from Animal Control. Yeah!
I saw ryan the trainer this morning and my arms are just now starting to get sore. Dave is pretty sure that I won't be able to raise my arms tomorrow. Now how am I supposed to hug my new kitty cat? I'm not the best planner...
We just got home from Forgeting Sarah Marshall and it was just so great! The pig scene, the score for the Puppet Dracula Musical oh there were so many favorite bits of the film. And why do Europeans have to wear a speedo? Baggie board shorts are the way to go here in these United States!
If you want to catch Dave's spirit on film, the part where Peter is happy and he's hanging with older tourists, in the hot tub or on the water slides with a bunch of kids, you will definately see my Dave's personality on screen.

another person from the past...
I JUST received an email from another friend in High School. This would be our first contact since 1987. I haven't responded back yet but will, since she is a lovely girl, but it still is a little strange for me to connect with those from my past. It's uncomfortable for me but I kinda like it, so far...
There are a few people I need to apologize to, but they haven't contacted me yet, (crosses fingers)

Julia Sweeney
I'm an atheist.
I found Julia's blog, again. It was lost for a few years and I don't know what or how many clicks got me back to her page. Of course I can't agree with everything that another person says but many things that she writes about I really REALLY REALLY agree with.
This post about how a friend points out that there may be very few people who are able to NOT believe in a higher power. Yes, they may not believe in god but they eventually reveal that there is some higher power called nature or energy or fairies or some form of new age-y reasoning for existence of man or this planet, The Secret. I am not one of those people. I have no belief in any higher power. none, Nada. And another thing pointed out is that those people who do believe in a higher power most likely look down on me.
My best friend is there finally, with me, but we were having lunch one day a couple of years ago and she had a moment of sheer panic in her voice that there is nothing NOTHING after death. She asked me how I was able to get there. It wasn't easy. In fact it was terrifying. But now it's not. It was just a small switch that's flipped in my mind and now it's not scary at all.
I keep getting this reminders that a god is something that most people live with. Lunch time conversations include some mention of faith getting a coworker through some struggle or achievement. I respect there beliefs and am normally very congratulatory about baptisms, missions, etc but I know that that support doesn't flow to the atheist. Atheism equals no morals or happiness. I'm very happy, thank you and I thinks morals because a certain faith requires it, isn't as wonderful as having morals out of goodness toward your fellow human because it's the right thing to do.
Hey can someone help me down off of this soapbox? hello! hello!....

Home
We are united with our cat and our comfortable home after 3 days and 2 nights in Las Vegas. Much to tell but very tired.
We stayed at the Paris and visited the Venetian (among other casinos). It's how I like my European cities, Epcot-like.
I just had to get out of town and spend ridiculous amounts of money on martinis. By the way, the cucumber martini at Aquaknox in the Venetian was incredible. The red lotus there was a close second.
When I get the pictures moved off of my phone I will post with stories of our adventure.

Catching Up, again
The weekend started with me catching up on my tivo'd shows (that Dave won't watch) and Dave catching up on his email, after work on Friday.

And, can I just say how happy I am that R.E.M. has a new CD out! They are one of my extra special favorite bands and the new CD is outstanding. I remember telling my sister about my love for Mike Mills in 1994. she responded, "You do realize that your boyfriend looks just like him, so I think I know how much you really like him." (Mike's the one on the left). Yeah, I didn't really connect that. Kinda wierd after that. Especially with the poster on the wall.
He came bounding down the stairs, angry and telling me that he received a chain email from his parent's friends. The email asked him to join a boycott against McDonald's because they are actively seeking gay investors. He responded that a boycott would be appropriate since they have contributed to the decline in the health of Americans. What wasn't appropriate was a boycott if someone was gay, mexican, indian, purple or Lithuanian. My face hurt from smiling. I told him my heart grew, just like the grinch's at Christmas.
We headed to Corbin's for dinner, a gin and tonic for me and a margarita for him. We met a few young men who happened to graduate from the High School across the street. They were very good looking, 30 year old men. We had a great conversation, but when one of them told me he hated Trey Parker, we were done talking.

Saturday, Dave was gone for the morning and like a good husband brought me home a coffee. We hung out a bit until it was time to climb into the car to meet the Curtises at church. "Church" is Four Peaks brewery in Tempe. The Curtises moved away two years ago, but before that, every Sunday we would meet them on Sundays, religiously, at the Four Peaks brewery. They now live near Vail. That evening, Dave decided we are not going to have a big party for his 40th birthday but we are traveling to their house. He was lured by the news that Doug had a plethora of bikes. I was convinced when he told me they had sattelite and flat screen HDTVs in each room. They can bike and Stef and I can drink beer. I also got to see Nancy. A former co-worker and a women who really has done it all. We couldn't shock her with our stories out on the town and she probably had done what we did sometime in her past. I distinctly remember her saying to me, "Have you tried this position...?" Well, yes I had. She lost her husband to cancer last year and we hadn't seen her since then. I was a little apprehensive in going; I really wanted to see Doug and Stefi but a former friend was supposed to be there, as well. She didn't show but Nancy and Stef both made a point to tell me that she is leading a non-drama life. Good, I'm happy for her.
Dave finally took me to La Grande Orange, for breakfast this morning. We woke up a bit late and wanted a good cup of coffee and someone else to make our breakfast. We then purchased a new vanity for our upstairs bathroom, the R.E.M. CD, Accelerate, and a few computer games for Dave's mom. Yup, I know, kinda random.
